Guest Lecturer on Fashion Trend Forecasting

For this endeavor, I created a custom workshop in Trend Forecasting that was open to students of all programs. This was conducted on a bi-annual basis to ensure that all enrolled students had the opportunity to attend the lecture.

Students will use the design thinking process for creating fashion or costuming concepts. They will apply analytical skills with a sense of empathy in response to the demands and requirements of a variety of end users, including those that may be underserved. They will design, test and modify selected concepts to ensure that their ideas match the interests of their selected market through the development of creative documentation and presentations. Consideration will be given to the role of the designer as a responsible corporate social decision maker.

Students will utilize and build on their previous exploration of the influence of technological advancements and socio- economic, cultural and economic factors on fashion trends in the development of fashion concept proposals. They will identify the top trends affecting contemporary fashion, as well as predict trends which are new directions in fashion and determine their impact on products geared towards anticipating customer’s wants and needs. During The Cut, students learn what it takes to get a collection to market so that it can be sold to consumers. Students have the opportunity to showcase their collection in a JCI institute fashion show—a high-energy, public event attended by media, fashion industry personnel, sponsors and your friends and family. Studnets also style a photo shoot of your collection and look at other ways to market your line. This fashion course provides you with legitimate material for your portfolio and teaches you how to communicate your brand’s message to an audience. By the end of it, you’ll be able to sell yourself and the ethos behind your designs.

Communication is key, especially in the fashion business world. The goal of this course is to learn how to communicate a brand’s message to the public. Students will create both paper and paperless media kits, and develop social media campaigns and strategies. They will also fine-tune writing skills with opportunities like writing for the JCI Fashion blog, creating one's own blog and drafting press releases. One of the highlights of this class is creating your own magazine from scratch using Adobe InDesign. By putting together fashion spreads, studnets showcase personal aesthetic and unique editorial vision. The best part? These are all eligible to become portfolio pieces.

For this class, I attended a class to discuss the routes to their careers in the fashion industry with a particular focus on comparing entrepreneurial routes vs. employment. I also provided tips on how to navigate first employment and market themselves as a graduate for internship and industry placement.

This program focuses on the management, marketing, and sales of fashion apparel and accessories. Courses cover new product development and branding, fashion buying and retailing, multi-channel commerce, international marketing and product management, and entrepreneurship. Visual merchandising skills combined with colour theory skills and trend forecasting give this program a dynamic, hands-on approach to the business side of fashion. The sustainable fashion profile provides students with opportunities to learn about important aspects of fashion sustainability such

For this class, I attended a class to discuss the function of trend forecasting in the fashion industry with a focus on routes to employment. I also brought examples of current trend forecasts for the students to examine and answered their questions about the future of the fashion industry from a professional perspective.


Helen LeFeaux School of Fashion Design

Helen Lefeaux School of Fashion Design (now defunct) was founded in 1981. The faculty is highly qualified professionals that guide students to become more innovative and creative in making an impact on the fashion world. They aid students in designing and creating the fashion garments from concept to final product; and because classes are small, each student is assured of personal attention. The fashion design diploma program offered by the Helen Lefeaux School of Fashion Design has 3 terms of 13 weeks’ duration each. Additionally, the school offers many short courses and workshops from sewing and pattern making to digital fashion design.


The Art Institute of Vancouver (acquired by LCI Education in 2017) in is one of the branches of the renowned Art Institutes. The history of this educational institution begins in 1979 with the sound school Buttertree (later - the Center for Digital Imaging and Sound Processing). In 2002, the school joined the Institute of Arts, and since 2003 the International Canadian Institute of Culinary and Hospitality is also part of the university. Now this institution occupies a leading position in the United States in such fields of education as design, fashion, media and culinary arts. In the United States and Canada - there are 45 branches of the institute where more than 125,000 global students elect to study each year.
